In Spain, the People's Party (PP, opposition) is demanding that the Sánchez government allocate an «extraordinary fund» to assist Sahrawi refugees facing a food emergency in the Tindouf camps in Algeria, report Iberian media.

The PP is urging the government to include an article in the upcoming finance bill to guarantee food and basic products for approximately 180,000 Sahrawi refugees. The group of PP deputies justified their proposal due to a 30% reduction in emergency food rations provided by the World Food Program (WFP) to Sahrawi refugees since November 2023.

In 2024, the Spanish government allocated over 12 million euros in humanitarian aid to the population of the Tindouf camps. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous year, according to Iberian media close to the Polisario Front.

It's worth noting that the Sánchez government provided 7M€ in humanitarian aid in 2023, and 3.6 million euros in 2022. This assistance is delivered to the Polisario Front through the Sahrawi Red Crescent, an organization responsible for receiving, collecting, and distributing international aid.
