UAE-based AMEA Power is set to make its inaugural foray into seawater desalination and green hydrogen production in Morocco, expanding its portfolio of renewable energy projects in the region. This announcement was made by Hussain Al Nowais, chairman of AMEA Power's board of directors, as reported by «Al Sharq».

Currently, EMEA Power operates four clean energy projects in Morocco, boasting a combined production capacity exceeding 200 megawatts. The company's latest venture will involve a significant investment of at least $100 million in a seawater desalination project. This initiative will be executed through the Spanish energy and water solutions specialist, «Cox», following EMEA Power's acquisition of a stake in the firm.

In addition to desalination, EMEA Power is exploring opportunities in green hydrogen production, with plans for a project potentially reaching up to 1 gigawatt in the southern region of Morocco.

To facilitate these ambitious projects, EMEA Power has established an office in Rabat. «The office was inaugurated last year with a team of Moroccan staff to engage in discussions with private sector companies interested in clean energy supply,» Al Nowais stated. He also mentioned that the company has pinpointed potential investment sites in cities such as El Hajeb and Taroudant.
