Al Hoceima's regional security police, in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested an individual on Thursday suspected of belonging to a criminal network involved in organizing irregular migration and human trafficking.
The 43-year-old suspect was caught in the act of preparing an irregular sea crossing to Europe for eight migrants, according to a security source. Searches led to the seizure of a fishing boat, two marine engines, and a sum of money believed to be proceeds from this criminal activity.
A background check in the National Security database revealed that the suspect was already the subject of a nationwide search warrant issued by the Royal Gendarmerie in Al Hoceima for his alleged involvement in a similar case of organizing irregular migration and human trafficking.
The suspect has been placed in police custody, while the eight migrants are under judicial investigation, conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to clarify the circumstances of the case.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this network.
