Tanger Med Port has climbed to 17th place in the Alphaliner 2024 ranking, strengthening its position as Africa’s top port and a major global hub. With one of the fastest growth rates worldwide, it continues to expand its influence on international trade.

In 2024, Tanger Med handled 10.24 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), an 18.9% increase from the previous year. This puts it among the fastest-growing ports in the world, just behind Los Angeles/Long Beach (+19.8%) and ahead of Tanjung Pelepas (+16.9%).

While most major ports grow at an average rate of 7–8% per year, Tanger Med’s rapid expansion sets it apart. Thanks to its modern infrastructure, strong global connections, and growing capacity, it is attracting more and more shipping traffic.

It remains the only African port in the global top 30, reinforcing its dominance on the continent.

On the international stage, Tanger Med is becoming a strong competitor to leading ports in Asia and the Americas. While global giants like Shanghai (1st, +4.8%) and Singapore (2nd, +5.4%) still handle the most cargo, their growth is much slower.

With its ideal location between Europe, Africa, and Asia, Tanger Med is on track to enter the world’s top 15 ports by 2026. Its rapid rise highlights Morocco’s growing role in global trade and confirms its place as a key logistics hub.
