The PJD parliamentary group has called for an urgent meeting of the Productive Sectors Commission, requesting the attendance of the Minister of Commerce and Industry to evaluate the impact of the new U.S. tariffs on Moroccan exports, recently introduced by Donald Trump.

In a letter addressed to the commission’s chair in the House of Representatives, the Islamist MPs voiced concern over the potential fallout from these tariffs. They warned the measures could also affect Moroccan imports and cause both direct and indirect disruptions to the national economy, especially supply chains.

The PJD MPs urged the Akhannouch government to carry out a «comprehensive assessment» and to consider «proactive and necessary steps to protect national businesses». They also called on the government to explore «legal and diplomatic avenues to safeguard Morocco’s economic interests within the framework of the World Trade Organization and existing international agreements».

At a press briefing on Thursday, the Minister of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson reiterated Morocco’s strong ties with the United States, describing them as a «solid partnership and a robust, multidimensional strategy». He noted that Morocco is the only African country with a free trade agreement with the U.S., which serves as a strong foundation for bilateral relations.

He added that Rabat «remains ready to further strengthen this agreement, in line with the Kingdom’s role as a gateway for trade and investment in both Africa and the Arab world».
