Police in Marrakech arrested, Tuesday, a young woman who recently sparked controversy on social media due to her involvement in a past assault case against her schoolmate, Salma. The incident occurred two years ago, and at the time, the court sentenced the assailant to two months in prison and ordered her to pay 50,000 dirhams in compensation to the victim for slashing her face with a blade, leaving a large scar.
However, the situation escalated after the assailant posted videos in which she threatened Salma again, prompting authorities to take new legal action.
Following the release of these videos, the 19-year-old was taken into custody and referred to the Marrakech Security Directorate for investigation into the video content. The inquiry is focused on holding her accountable for the threats and incitement directed at Salma.
The public prosecutor at the Marrakech Primary Court has instructed the judicial police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the videos containing explicit threats, with the goal of identifying responsibilities and taking appropriate legal measures.
The case has drawn widespread attention on social media, where users launched the hashtag #WeAreAllSalma to call for justice and protection for the victim. Many activists argued that the initial sentence was too lenient, especially in light of the ongoing threats faced by Salma.
