Sefrou municipal council president arrested for issuing bad checks

The National Brigade of Judicial Police has apprehended Rachid Ahmed Cherif, the president of the municipal council in Sefrou and a member of the National Rally of Independents party. This arrest took place, Thursday, after national warrants were issued for his arrest, following several weeks in hiding. Cherif is currently in custody as investigations continue under the supervision of the relevant public prosecution authorities.

Cherif faces charges related to issuing checks without sufficient funds, totaling hundreds of millions of centimes, according to local media sources.

The absence of this municipal leader had nearly paralyzed municipal services, leading the governor of Sefrou province to reach out to the Administrative Court in Fez to begin the process of removing him from office.
