The strengthening of cooperation between the cities of Dakhla and Dreux (France) in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture, and renewable energy was at the center of a meeting held on Saturday in Dakhla.

The meeting was chaired by the President of the Dakhla Municipal Council, Erragheb Hormatallah, and attended by the Mayor of Dreux, Pierre-Frédéric Billet, who led a French delegation including business leaders, investors, and representatives of the French GEDIA Group, a major player in the environment and renewable energy sectors.

In a statement to the press, Hormatallah said the meeting provided an opportunity for the GEDIA Group to present a project focusing on agriculture, aquaculture, renewable energy, and waste management.

He added that an agreement was also signed concerning a key project within the framework of the existing partnership between the municipality of Dakhla and the city of Dreux, noting that this partnership is being translated into concrete initiatives and tangible projects.

For his part, the Mayor of Dreux stated that the agreement marks the launch of a pioneering initiative aimed at the valorization of marine waste, as well as other types of waste, with the long-term goal of producing biogas through sustainable waste recovery.

He explained that the initiative also seeks to protect the environment, given that Dakhla is distinguished by a unique ecosystem rich in natural resources.

Meanwhile, Patrick Polge, CEO of the GEDIA Group, noted that the project involves an experimental micro-methanization process, based on the production of gas and agricultural fertilizers from organic waste.

According to him, the project is part of the broader development momentum of the Dakhla–Oued Eddahab region, notably in tourism, agriculture, and maritime fishing.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Wilaya of Dakhla–Oued Eddahab, Abderrazak El Gourji, members of the Dakhla Municipal Council, and heads of external services.
