Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch chaired, Wednesday, a meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Social Support Agency (ANSS) in Rabat. Established to strengthen the implementation of social policies, beginning with the direct aid program launched at the end of 2023, the agency approved its action plan for 2026 during the session.

According to an official statement, the board reviewed plans to open a territorial branch in the province of El Jadida «to ensure closer proximity to beneficiaries and to enhance direct social aid as a lever for empowerment and productive social and economic integration through programs tailored to the socio-spatial realities of families».

The agency also adopted a mechanism to monitor performance indicators for the program aimed at reducing poverty and vulnerability. Following discussions, partnership agreements were approved between the ANSS and «ministerial departments, public institutions, and international organizations».

These agreements focus on «children’s education, employment support for vulnerable individuals, the promotion of good governance principles, and the electronic exchange of data between the agency and several ministerial departments and public institutions», the statement said.

Currently, 3.9 million families benefit from the direct social aid program, representing more than 12.5 million citizens. Among them, 5.5 million children receive support from birth until the age of 21, in addition to 1.7 million people over the age of 60.

Monthly and supplementary assistance ranges from 500 to 1,350 dirhams. In 2025, the program led to an increase in these amounts and introduced additional support for orphaned and abandoned children housed in social welfare institutions.
