Amidst a growing wave of natural disasters linked to climate change—such as the recent floods impacting several nations, including Morocco—the General Directorate of Civil Protection marks World Civil Protection Day, observed annually on March 1, 2026.
This year's theme, «Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future», selected by the International Civil Protection Organization, underscores the escalating scale of environmental risks and the formidable challenges they present to modern societies.
In light of the diverse and intense emergency situations, particularly those exacerbated by climate change, adopting an integrated risk management approach and enhancing coordination among various stakeholders is crucial. A unified strategy is deemed essential to mitigate the impact of disasters and establish the foundation for sustainable and resilient development.
On this occasion, the General Directorate of Civil Protection reaffirms its dedication to bolstering prevention mechanisms, risk management, and intervention strategies while fostering a culture of prevention and resilience among the public. Their comprehensive efforts span the entire protection chain: from risk anticipation and emergency preparedness to conducting rescue operations and providing assistance to affected communities, both as part of their statutory duties and during large-scale national mobilizations.
The commemoration will also feature open house events on March 1 and 2, 2026, at Civil Protection units throughout the Kingdom. The program includes showcases of logistical resources and specialized equipment, operational demonstrations, rescue and firefighting exercises, and first aid training sessions for the public. These initiatives will be complemented by awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting vigilance and civic responsibility, essential for a society better equipped to face future challenges.
