On Sunday evening, Aziz Akhannouch, the head of the Moroccan government, touched down in Nairobi to stand in for King Mohammed VI at the Africa Forward Summit. He will also attend the fourth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Congo Basin Climate Commission (CBCC) and the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, set for May 11 and 12 in the Kenyan capital.
Akhannouch was greeted at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Kenya's Minister of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programs, Geoffrey Ruku, the Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Abraham Korir Sing’Oei, and Morocco's ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan, Abderrazzak Laassel.
Joining him is a Moroccan delegation that includes the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, and the Deputy Minister responsible for Investment, Convergence, and Public Policy Evaluation, Karim Zidane.
Also part of the delegation is a notable team from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), led by its president, Chakib Alj, and comprising several key figures from the Moroccan private sector.
The Africa Forward Summit serves as a platform for numerous heads of state and government to deliberate on enhancing partnerships between Africa and France. The agenda focuses on fostering balanced and tangible collaborations, particularly in the areas of cross-investments, economic development, training, and joint strategies to tackle global challenges.
The fourth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the CBCC is convening ahead of the Donors' Round Table for the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, slated for May 26 in Brazzaville. This meeting aims to approve the resource mobilization strategy and the political and technical documents developed during the preparatory process.
