Moroccan police seized 2.96 tonnes of cannabis resin (chira) and foiled an international drug trafficking attempt on Friday, following an operation carried out by the National Judicial Police Brigade (BNPJ) based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

The operation took place on the outskirts of Ben Slimane and resulted in the seizure of a utility vehicle loaded with drugs after a police pursuit. The driver reportedly fled in the wrong direction on the highway before abandoning the vehicle near Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport and escaping.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 75 packages of cannabis resin weighing a total of 2.96 tonnes.

The BNPJ has opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to identify and arrest the driver, as well as all other individuals involved in the criminal network behind the trafficking operation.
