On Saturday night, Morocco's national team head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, conveyed a blend of satisfaction and regret following the 1-1 draw in their opening Group C match of the 2026 World Cup against Brazil, noting that his players had «delivered a solid performance».
«It was a good match. We played well. We will be better in the next game,» Ouahbi remarked during the post-match press conference. He emphasized the quality of Morocco's performance against a Brazilian squad he described as «very physically imposing, dangerous in the box, and geared toward direct play».
The Moroccan coach pointed out the team's control during certain phases. «We found space behind, imposed our rhythm, but we need to learn to finish matches the way we start them,» he insisted.
Despite a lingering sense of unfinished business, Ouahbi was quick to defend his players’ mentality: «I'm proud of them. This is not a disappointment. Even in the dressing room, they weren’t euphoric, because they knew there was more they could have done.»
Discussing individual performances, Ouahbi highlighted young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, saying he was not surprised by the player's caliber: «I know his qualities very well.» He also praised Neil El Aynaoui, who he felt delivered «a very high-level match» in a midfield that offers «an interesting blend of youth and experience».
Regarding goalkeeper Yassine Bounou’s condition, the coach was reassuring: «He took a small knock to the shoulder, but he is fine.» Finally, Ouahbi commended the atmosphere surrounding the match, describing it as «a great spectacle driven by both Moroccan and Brazilian supporters».
