The Moroccan film producers Lamia Chraïbi and Karim Aitouna have been welcomed into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the esteemed organization behind the Oscars, marking their inclusion as new members.
These accomplished producers, who have a rich portfolio of films both in Morocco and internationally, are among the 529 artists and executives invited to join the Los Angeles-based Academy, acknowledged for their significant contributions to the world of cinema.
«We are thrilled to invite this exceptional group of artists and filmmakers from around the world to join the Academy», stated Bill Kramer, the Academy's CEO, and Lynette Howell Taylor, its president, in an announcement on the American film institution's official website.
Lamia Chraïbi, both a producer and director, holds a master's degree in political science from the Sorbonne (2011) and a master's in documentary filmmaking from Montreal's National Institute of Image and Sound (2015).
Her production credits include Hicham Lasri's «The End», «The Sea Is Behind», and «Jahilya», Narjis Nejjar's «The Rif Lover», and Mohcine Besri's «An Ordinary Emergency». On the international stage, she collaborated with French-Spanish director Olivier Laxe on «Mimosas».
Karim Aitouna, working between Morocco and France, has produced several notable films, including Anna Roussillon's «I Am the People», showcased at the Cannes Film Festival; David Yon's «The Night and the Kid», featured at the Berlin International Film Festival; Rä di Martino's «La Controfigura», presented at the Venice Film Festival; and Ahmed Fawzi Saleh's «Poisonous Roses», which screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, alongside various documentaries.
Established in 1927, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences stands as the world’s most prestigious film organization. It boasts over 11,000 members, encompassing some of the industry's leading artists and professionals, spread across 17 branches including acting, directing, screenwriting, and cinematography.
