Morocco and the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed financing agreements worth €365 million on Tuesday in Rabat to strengthen the resilience and safety of the country's road and rail infrastructure.

The agreements were signed by EIB Global Deputy Director Lionel Rapaille, National Railways Office (ONCF) Deputy Director-General Mohamed Smouni, and Daniele Dotto, Deputy Head of Mission of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Morocco, in the presence of Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah and EIB President Nadia Calviño.

The first agreement provides a €50 million EIB loan, complemented by a €15 million EU grant, to support the rehabilitation of Morocco's railway network through an ONCF-led project.

The second agreement consists of a €300 million EIB loan for Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) to finance a project aimed at improving the resilience of the country's motorway network.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Calviño described Morocco as a long-standing strategic partner of the EIB, the European Union's lending arm, and praised the Kingdom's role as a pillar of stability and prosperity across the region.

Fettah, in turn, welcomed the strength of the strategic partnership between Morocco, the European Union and the EIB, noting that it builds on 50 years of cooperation and 20 years of the EIB's permanent presence in the Kingdom.

«The signing of these new financing agreements, worth €365 million, supports concrete projects for sustainable and modern mobility while illustrating the strength of a partnership that delivers tangible benefits for citizens,» the minister said.

The EIB has been a key partner of Morocco for nearly five decades, playing a central role in financing projects that support the country's economic development, social cohesion and climate action.
