Morocco’s economy witnessed a 4.3 percent growth in the first quarter of 2017. The Kingdom has registered a 1.7 percent increase in comparison with last year, according to the Moroccan Planning agency.
Reported by Reuters Africa, the first quarter of the year brought better results compared to the last three months of 2016. The agency expects Morocco’s economy to reach a 4.6 percent growth in the second quarter of the current year.
The economic growth was backed by the good results the agricultural sector obtained last year. Agricultural outputs rose to 12.9 percent, thanks to the rainfall season that the country experienced at the end of 2016.
The agency reports that agriculture boosted the economy of the country due to a 41 percent rise in the cereal production. The sector was harmed last year by a severe wave of drought which particularly affected agriculture and decreased outputs by 70 percent. Agriculture production is a massive part of Morocco’s economy.
