Entitled «History of Moroccans in the Netherlands : presence & memory», Abdellatif Maaroufi’s book was presented on the 4th of April in Rabat during a ceremony that pays tribute to the first generations of Moroccans who settled in the Netherlands. The exhibition was organized by the Council of the Moroccan community Abroad (CCME).

Maaroufi’s artwork, published by “La croisée des chemins”, portrays the everyday life of Moroccans who live in the Netherlands. According to the CCME official website, the book gives a closer look to the historical aspects of the involvement of the Moroccan migration in northern Europe during the 16th and 17th century through «human histories, archives, unique pictures and life stories.»

«History of Moroccans in the Netherlands : presence & memory» tasked itself with introducing the history of those Moroccan community in the Netherlands. The author also indicates that the book contributes in archiving the experience of Moroccans living abroad. The 253 pages work also sheds light on four main phases that describe the diplomatic relations that tied Morocco and the Netherlands.

Moreover, Désirée Bonis, Dutch ambassador in Morocco confirmed that the book pays tribute to 400 years of bilateral relations between the two countries. «Today 400,000 of my fellow citizens are Moroccans», Bonis said pointing out that Moroccans contributed in enriching the Dutch culture and lifestyle.
