The Mediterranean Foundation for Peace (FMP), based in Naples, has just awarded Fouzia Assouli, President of the Euro-Mediterranean Women's Foundation (FEMF) and Honorary President of the Democratic Federation of Women's Rights (FLDDF) the 2017 Mediterranean Prize for Women.

According to a press release, the founding president of the FMP, Michele Capasso, affirmed at the award ceremony at the headquarters of the foundation that this distinction is a tribute to Mrs Assouli's action in favor of human rights, and also for her struggle to promote the values of democracy, citizenship and peace not only in her country, Morocco, but also at the level of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

For her part, Ms Assouli declared herself «honored» to have been chosen by the FMP to be the «first activist to receive such an award which highlights the combat carried out by the militants of its association, the FLDDF and the combat of all women's movement activists in Morocco, the Euro-Mediterranean region and the world for the sake of equality, equity and democracy».

The meeting was organized around themes devoted to the capacity of facing discrimination and violence, as well as social inequality and the question of democracy, the communiqué said.
