The first flight linking Santander, the capital city of the Cantabria region on Spain’s north coast, and Marrakech was launched on Monday 30th of October by Ryanair, an Irish low-cost airline founded headquartered in Swords, Dublin, Ireland.

This inaugural flight landed at Seve Ballesteros airport in Santander with the presence of Eva Bartolomé, head of the tourism sector in the government of Cantabria, who welcomed the opening of this line. The latter is the only route that connects the north of Spain to Marrakech, said a statement issued by the regional government.

«It is more than a tourist route, the new flight is a business opportunity for many companies and a way of maintaining cultural exchanges, based on knowledge and learning of the Spanish language», said Bartolomé, adding that the Cantabrian government is working with Morocco to carry out several projects in the future.

«We will develop various promotional activities in Marrakech and other cities in Morocco to intensify tourism and entrepreneurial exchanges as well as cooperation in the academic field,» she said.

The Spanish official also pointed out that Marrakech is a very attractive destination for tourists, and will be more accessible for tourists in northern Spain.

Ryanair launched two weekly flights to link the two cities every Monday and Friday.
