The elections of the members belonging to the two thirds of the African Union Peace and Security Council, scheduled for February, might be of great interest for Morocco. Algeria’s seat, which is representing the North Africa zone, will become vacant on March the 31st.
However, Morocco’s neighboring country is not planning to leave its position at the council for too long, as it has done before during the period between 2010 and 2013. In fact, Algeria is expected to bid for the position again in 2019, announced the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel.
This choice comes as on the 31st of March 2019, Egypt’s term as a representative for the North African area inside the Peace and Security Council would expire.
