Cutting ties with Iran : Jordan backs the Moroccan decision

Jordan announced on Wednesday its support for Morocco after cutting ties with Iran, citing Hezbollah’s support for the Polisario, said MAP news agency.

«We stand with our Moroccan brothers and support them in their struggle, defending their security, stability and territorial integrity», said Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on his Twitter account.

Jordan and the Kingdom of Morocco have always had good diplomatic relations, maintained by the two monarchs King Mohammed VI and King Abdullah II, said the Jordanian minister.

On Tuesday, Moroccan minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita announced that Morocco has decided to severe diplomatic relations with Iran.

The decision was a «reaction to Iran’s confirmed involvement through Hezbollah, in providing support for the Polisario».

Gulf countries, expect Kuwait, have voiced their support for the Kingdom’s step, namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, and Bahrain.

Iran has denied Morocco’s accusations, while the Front said that «Rabat’s decision is a way to escape the recent UN resolution on Western Sahara».

Morocco on the other hand denied the separatist movement’s claims insisting that it has irrefutable proof, names, and specific actions to corroborate the complicity between the Polisario and Hezbollah.
