After losing the right to host the 2026 World Cup, Morocco is to present its candidacy for the 2030 international tournament. The information was made public by Arabic-language newspaper TelQuel Arabi, citing the Minister of Youth and Sports Rachid Talbi Alami.

According to the minister who is currently in Moscow, the decision followed the «instructions» of King Mohammed VI.

Speaking to MAP news agency, he stated that Morocco conducted a transparent campaign to promote the 2026 World Cup bid, reporting some of FIFA practices that did harm to the Kingdom’s candidacy. He also referred to the «betrayal of some Arab countries» that voted for the North American bid.

Morocco can still count on Qatar as Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani told the sovereign in a phone call that his country will «support Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup», says MAP press agency, quoting a statement issue by the royal cabinet.

To date, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay are the only countries that have jointly submitted a bid to co-host the 2030 World Cup.
