King Mohammed VI received, Wednesday evening, the Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Saud bin Nayef, who was carrying a letter of King Salman. This is his first visit to Morocco after he took office.

The Minister is close to the most powerful man in the Saudi Kingdom, Crown Prince Mohamed Ben Salman. He served before as the advisor of the Ministry of Defense and then of the government.

On May 31st, Moroccan Interior Minister Abelouafi Laftit visited Riyadh. He held talks with his Saudi counterpart and discussed ways of cooperating in the security field, a source told MAP news agency.

The Saudi official was received upon his arrival by Interior Minister Abdel Wafi Laftit, and the Saudi ambassador in Morocco Walid bin Abdullah.

The official delegation accompanying the Saudi Interior Minister includes the Assistant Minister of Interior for Operations, General Security Supervisor General Saeed bin Abdullah Al Qahtani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior for Security Affairs Mohammed Bin Muhanna Al Muhanna and a number of senior officials.

Diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Morocco have been tensious for months, especially as the country did not support Morocco when bidding for the 2026 World Cup. King Salman, and unlike previous years, did not spend his summer vacation in Tangier.

Morocco, on the other hand, has remained silent after the recent crisis that occurred between Saudi Arabia and Canada, unlike most Arab countries that rushed to back Ryadh.
