Moroccan pianist Marouan Benabdallah performed, Friday, at the «La Plantation» theater in Beijing, playing Arabic, international and classical music.
At the beginning of this artistic evening, marked by the presence of Morocco's ambassador to China, Aziz Mekouar, the Moroccan pianist surprised the Chinese public by addressing them in Mandarin, a language he had learned in Hungary, the country of his mother who introduced him to music.
In an hour and a half, Benabdallah managed to impress his audience through his «arabesque» repertoire. Marouan Benabdallah, 36, also delighted the audience with works by famous international artists.
Speaking to MAP news agency, the pianist expressed his joy to perform again in China where he had already participated in several shows in the recent years.
He said that despite cultural and linguistic difference, «music is an important factor in bringing people together because it is a universal language».
Born in Rabat in 1982, Marouan Benabdellah, who was introduced to the piano at the age of 4, left Morocco at the age of 13 to pursue his musical studies in Hungary at the Béla Bartók Conservatory and then at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest. .
Marouan Benabdellah, who followed an academic musical training, had also benefited from the valuable advice of the famous pianist and professor Ferenc Rados.
He was awarded for the first time in 2007 before receiving four other awards (chamber music, music theory, harmony, pedagogy) and winning numerous international competitions.
