Over 12 million tourists visited Morocco in 2018, up by 8% compared to the year before, head of the Moroccan tourism office (ONMT), Adel El Fakir, said Tuesday in Casablanca.
These figures indicate a sound tourism industry, he added, noting that the Moroccan tourism industry is one of the most competitive ones in the world.
Indeed, this industry has achieved, between 2000 and 2018, an annual growth of 6 pc, which is 2 points higher than the global growth of the sector, El Fakir said
This makes of Morocco the first African destination and the 30th destination worldwide, he added.
El Fakir also noted the increase of Chinese tourists who visit Morocco, whose number rose from 15,000 in 2015 to 180,000.
