Morocco's professional football league (Botola Pro) will introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) next season, President of the Royal Football Federation (FRMF), Faouzi Lakjaa, announced Thursday in Skhirate.
Speaking at a meeting with referees, coaches and presidents of national professional football clubs, Lakjaa underlined the need to introduce the VAR technology, adding that the next African Cup of Nations, to be held in Egypt, will adopt the technology from the quarter-final stage onwards.
The FRMF has agreed with FIFA to introduce the VAR next season, which requires a specific training for Moroccan referees, he pointed out.
The training will start very soon so as to be ready to introduce the technology at the start of the next season, Lakjaa added.
The role of the VAR is to assist the referee to determine whether there was an infringement that means a goal should not be awarded.
