The OCP Group, Morocco’s leading exporter of phosphate rock, phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers, is planning to build an ammonia plant in Nigeria, reports Reuters quoting OCP Africa’s chief executive.
OCP revealed that it will start production in its chemical plant in Ethiopia by 2023/2024, the same source said, adding that the Moroccan group is also considering the construction of a factory in Ghana in 2020.
The Ghana plant will be producing «customized fertilizers» for the African market, Karim Lotfi Senhaji said.
Nigeria’s factory is expected to have a total capacity of 1 million tonnes of ammonia, wrote Reuters, adding that the project would need an investment of $1.5 billion. On the other hand, Ethiopia’s plant will have a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of fertilizers.
«We encourage having this customization done as close as possible to the farmers or the area of consumption. We don’t aim to produce everything in Morocco», said Senhaji.
Moreover, OCP is planning to build blending facilities in Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia and Ghana.
