Policemen seized, in coordination with members of the customs services in Guergarate (south of the city of Dakhla), 11 tons and 940 kg of hashish onboard an international transport truck bound for an African country, on the basis of accurate information provided by the Directorate General for Territory Surveillance (DGST).
The search operations at the borders helped to catch, on Wednesday, the drug concealed inside kitchen furniture onboard the trailer of a Morocco-registered truck, said the police (DGSN) in a statement, adding that the investigation led also to the arrest of the truck driver, aged 37, and the officer in charge of the customs clearance at the border post.
The illegal substance was transferred to the customs administration as it falls under its jurisdiction, while the suspects were remanded in police custody to complete the probe conducted by the judicial police in Dakhla police district, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, it said.
This operation is part of continued efforts made by police services to fight international drug and psychotropic pills trafficking.
