A ship from the maritime service of the Spanish Civil Guard in Ceuta found, early Friday afternoon, in the waters near the southern coast of Ceuta, the body of a man of Moroccan origin.

According to news agency Europa Press, the body of the Moroccan seems to have spent «at least a week» at sea, given its «advanced state» of decomposition.

According to sources from the local police command, the owner of a leisure boat sailing around the beach of El Desnarigado, about five kilometers from the border with Morocco, alerted the emergency services of the presence of a corpse in the water.

The Civil Guard mobilized one of its ships in the area. The body was transferred to the base of the maritime services of the port of Ceuta. The investigators believe that the deceased died drowned while trying to swim to the Spanish enclave.

On July 23, the Spanish authorities found another dead body in circumstances similar to the Ceuta one. The latter was allegedly overwhelmed by the strong currents in the area.
