Over a year, the Spanish National Police and Civil Guard dismantled 38 human trafficking organizations, in collaboration with the Moroccan authorities. This figure was given by Lucrecio Fernandez who is the Spanish delegate in Andalusia.

According to La Opinión de Málaga, Lucrecio Fernández said that the fight against the mafias was «one of the three pillars on which the priorities of state policy are based particularly in a country considered as a main maritime entry to the country». As for the other two components, Fernández explains that it is about the increase of the material and human resources that is needed to rescue the people at sea and to have a dignified humanitarian approach for the reception in the ports.

Over the last 18 months, Salvamento Maritimo who is a sea rescue police says to a Spanish media outlet, that more than 50,000 people from across the Spanish coast were saved at the hands of 750 professionals out there. In this sense, Spain stresses the importance of its collaboration with the countries from where the migrants originate, particularly Morocco.

La Opnion de Malaga further states that, the number of people arriving irregularly by the coasts was reduced by almost half compared to the year before. Fernandez also warns that this tendency is temporary and that it is necessary to take an anticipatory approach to future arrivals.
