The US Department of State has urged American nationals living in Morocco against the «heightened tensions in Iraq and the region».

In a security alert, published January 3 on its website, the American mission in Morocco said that it «strongly encourages US citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance and practice good situational awareness».

«While we are not aware of specific, credible threats against US citizens in Morocco at this time, travelers to and in Morocco, as well as other countries in the region, are urged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security message», the US embassy added.

This security alert comes as a crowd angered by US air strikes targeting an Iran-backed militia attacked the US embassy in Baghdad, Tuesday.

The attack was followed by the death of Irani Gen. Qasem Soleimani, head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its Quds Force.
