Morocco’s head of government Saadeddine El Othmani denounced, in speech he delivered Thursday before the members of his government, the spread of rumors about the new coronavirus.

«It is absolutely unacceptable. It is necessary to check with the competent authorities before spreading rumors about the virus. We have a national monitoring and control system», he said, stressing that «the Health Ministry remains the only authority entitled to disclose information about the virus».

El Othmani recalled that there is «a monitoring commission that follows very closely the developments of this question».

«Another technical commission has also been set up, made up of virology experts, that is responsible for monitoring the development of the virus at international and regional levels», he added.

El Othmani also praised the «efficiency» of the measures taken by the competent services, while emphasizing «the need of taking the necessary precautions without exaggerating».
