Officials and detainees in 53 Morocco prisons test negative for coronavirus

Officials and detainees in 53 prisons have tested negative for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), according to the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR).

Partial results of nine penal institutions were also negative, while the results of tests carried out in ten other prisons have not yet been received, the Delegation pointed out in a statement.

As regards the four officials suspected of being infected with coronavirus - one at the local prison of Oujda, two at the local prison of Salé 2 and another one at the local prison of Tetouan - the result of their second test was negative, the source said.

Two officials at the local prison of Tangier 1 out of a total of seven (07) officials who were tested were diagnosed with Covid-19, the source said, adding that the concerned officials have carried out a second test to confirm the resultst of the first one.

Regarding detainees, three Covid-19 cases were reported at the local prison of Tangier 1 out of a total of 10 detainees who were tested, one case was confirmed at the local prison of Ras El Ma and another one at the local prison of Bourkayez in Fez, it said, adding that new tests were carried out to confirm the resultst of the first ones.
