No coronavirus-related death has been recorded in the last 24 hours in Morocco

Between Friday and Saturday, Morocco recorded 199 cases of the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 5,910. During a daily press briefing, the head of the epidemiology department Mohamed Lyoubi indicated that 82% were in close contact with previously confirmed cases.

9,017 of the 34,000 people who were in close contact with confirmed cases are still under medical surveillance, the official said, adding that during the past 24 hours, 2,989 suspected cases have tested negative for the virus, bringing the total number of excluded cases to 57,149.

Furthermore, the good news this Saturday is that no additional death has been recorded in the last 24 hours. Hence, the death toll stands at 186, with a fatality rate of 3.1%, according to Mohamed Lyoubi. Between Friday and Saturday too, 137 recoveries were confirmed, for a total of 2,461, with a recovery rate of 41.6%.

Casablanca-Settat remains the region the most affected by the virus, with a rate of 26.92% of cases. It is followed by Marrakech-Safi (19.90%), Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (14.79%), Fez-Meknes (13.74%), Drâa-Tafilalet (9.46%), Rabat-Salé -Kenitra (8.49%), the Oriental region (2.98%), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (1.76%), Souss-Massa (1.13%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (0.73%) , Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (0.07%) and Dakhla-Oued Ed Dahab (0.03%).

Mohamed Lyoubi said that the average age of infected cases is decreasing. It is now 35 years old, with male patients representing 53% of the group and women 47%. This drop in the average age is observed while «new cases of the coronavirus are still discovered in workplaces and within households».

According to the health official, 2% of hospitalized patients are in critical conditions while 89% are asymptomatic.
