Moroccan nationals top the list of naturalized foreigners in the European Union for the seventh consecutive year, according to data compiled by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat). Out of the 672,270 people who obtained citizenship in one of the member states of the European Union in 2018, 67,156 were Moroccans.
The European Commissioner for Agriculture is currently providing for the criteria to be complied with for the marketing of imported products, including the ones originating from Western Sahara. However, the measure is pending a decision from the European Court of Justice regarding the amendment of two articles 1 and 4 from the EU-Morocco association agreement.
According to a recent report by the European Court of Auditors, EU funding for Morocco between 2014 and 2018 had limited results. Assessing financial aid allocated to the Kingdom, the body concluded that fewer sectors must be targeted in the future.
Last week, the Dutch parliament passed a non-binding motion that contradicted a new labeling policy imposed by the European Union on goods made in Israeli settlement. The motion referred to products from Western Sahara, stressing that decision against Israel is «discriminatory».
