Morocco is determined to strengthen its cooperation with the emerging countries of Southeast Asia. After the meeting of Friday April 16 with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Nasser Bourita held Wednesday an online meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, indicates the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
These talks complete a series of meetings between Rabat and Jakarta, held over the past three years and aimed at promoting economic exchanges between the two parties. The two ministers signed, in October 2019 in Jakarta, cooperation agreements in the maritime and fishing, industrial and counterterrorism fields, as well as the exchange of information on money laundering and terrorist financing.

At the end of November 2020, a webinar was organized to boost trade between Rabat and Jakarta, with the participation of representatives from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On this occasion, the kingdom's ambassador to Indonesia revealed that the two countries are negotiating a preferential agreement to speed up bilateral trade. Indonesia sees Morocco as a hub to conquer a booming African market.
It was in 1960 that Rabat and Jakarta established diplomatic relations. On the Sahara issue, Indonesia, a former member of the Security Council from January 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020, has always pleaded for a political solution accepted by the parties.
In September 2016, Morocco joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
