Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita warned against «any practices and decisions» escalating tensions in Jerusalem (Al-Quds) during Ramadan, speaking in Rabat on February 26th.
Such actions, he cautioned, could worsen the «already tragic reality experienced in the Palestinian Gaza Strip», as stated during a joint press conference with his French counterpart, Stéphane Séjourné.
The minister's concerns focused on recurring Israeli incursions onto the Al-Aqsa Mosque esplanade during Ramadan by security forces and settlers. Notably, on April 6th, 2023, Israeli forces stormed the compound, utilizing grenades and arresting hundreds of Palestinian worshippers.
The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously condemned these violations, stating in a press release that «the Kingdom reiterates its rejection of such practices, which only complicate and exacerbate the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and undermine efforts aimed at easing tensions and restoring confidence».
