The Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, attended the funeral ceremony of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of Hamas, on Friday. Haniyeh was assassinated by Israel last Wednesday in Tehran, Iran. The ceremony took place in Doha, Qatar.
In addition to Benkirane, Mohamed Réda Benkhaldoun, head of the party's International Relations Committee, also attended the funeral.
Tens of thousands performed funeral prayers for Haniyeh at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque after Friday prayers, before he was laid to rest at Lusail Cemetery.
The funeral was attended by Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his father Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, as well as official delegations and leaders of Palestinian factions.
