Austria reaffirmed its commitment to the «excellent relations» it shares with the Kingdom of Morocco on Sunday.
In a press release following the European Court of Justice (ECJ) decision on the fisheries and agricultural agreements between the EU and Morocco, the Austrian Foreign Ministry emphasized on its X account that Vienna supports the joint statement made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative Josep Borrell regarding the ECJ's rulings.
The ministry also noted that Austria would «carefully study» the Court's decision and reiterated the excellent bilateral relations it maintains with the Kingdom of Morocco.
Following the ECJ ruling, President von der Leyen and High Representative Borrell issued a joint statement reaffirming the EU's commitment to preserving and further strengthening close relations with Morocco in all areas, in accordance with the principle of «pacta sunt servanda».
The joint statement, a rare political act that underscores Morocco’s importance, highlights the significance of the EU's strategic partnership with the Kingdom and reiterates the «high value» the EU places on its «long-standing, broad, and deep» relationship with Morocco.
