On Friday, May 2, 2025, the AKDITAL Group achieved a groundbreaking medical milestone in Morocco: the country’s first telesurgery operation between Casablanca and Laayoune.
Dr. Adil Ouzzane, a urological surgeon and expert in robotic surgery, performed a robot-assisted radical prostatectomy from the International Oncology Center in Casablanca on a patient located more than 1,100 kilometers away at the Laâyoune International Polyclinic. The procedure was a success, and the patient is in good condition.
To make this achievement possible, AKDITAL equipped both facilities with state-of-the-art surgical robots that offer unparalleled precision, enhanced flexibility, and reduced operating time. An ultra-fast and secure connection was established using SD-WAN technology, with a latency of just 20 milliseconds.
The operation was carried out with the support of highly qualified medical and paramedical teams. In Laayoune, Dr. Younes Tibari, Prof. Adil Mellouki, and Dr. Khalid Azizi oversaw the patient’s safety, supported by an experienced staff under the supervision of Ms. Siham Bouhtouri.
«What matters most is the patient’s health. Today, thanks to this technology, remote surgery has become a reality», said Dr. Ouzzane. For AKDITAL CEO Dr. Rochdi Talib, this breakthrough marks «the beginning of a true decentralization of specialized care in Morocco».
With this medical first, AKDITAL reaffirms its commitment to expanding access to advanced healthcare and positioning Morocco as a leader in medical innovation across Africa.
