In a show of solidarity with the Gen Z 212 protesters in Morocco, a Rabat city council member submitted his resignation on Tuesday. «This decision was not easy, but it stems from a deep conviction: the anger of young Moroccans in the streets reflects real suffering caused by unemployment, the cost of living, and the lack of public services, particularly in health and education. These are critical issues that cannot be ignored», wrote Moussa Laarif in his resignation letter to the capital’s mayor, Fatiha El Moudni of the PAM.
«I have chosen to stand with these young people, not as a mere spectator or silent observer, but to express my solidarity in a concrete way. I believe that the responsibility of elected officials is to listen to citizens, especially when they peacefully demand dignity and social justice», he added.
Laarif, a member of the Moroccan Liberal Party, concluded: «My resignation is a symbolic cry to say that it is time to launch a serious and responsible national dialogue, one that puts citizens’ priorities at the center of public policy and restores the trust that young people have lost in their institutions».
