The Moroccan avocado export season has officially concluded, closing what industry experts have labeled as an «exceptional and extremely challenging» period, according to Abdellah Elyamlahi, president of the Moroccan Avocado Association. While the 2024/2025 season boasted record-breaking production and export figures exceeding 100,000 tons, the recently ended 2025/2026 season marked a significant downturn.

In a statement to Fresh Plaza, Elyamlahi highlighted that the 2025/2026 season was plagued by severe climatic challenges that severely disrupted production. He stated, «On a national level, we managed to export 58,000 tons of avocados throughout the season. The reduced quantities made exporting a difficult and unusual task. Prices stayed high throughout, further complicating the fruit's marketing.»

Elyamlahi further explained that the season concluded with the same challenges it began with, noting, «We encountered numerous logistical issues, such as port closures due to adverse weather, a shortage of transportation options, and lengthy delays that compromised the product's quality by the end of the season.»

He continued, «As exporters, this season was far from favorable. We did everything in our power to fulfill our commitments, and now we can only hope that this season was an anomaly, allowing us to soon recapture the momentum the avocado sector has enjoyed in recent years.»
