The Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), General Mohammed Berrid, touched down in Mauritania yesterday afternoon. His visit is part of the ongoing activities of the joint military commission between Morocco and Mauritania, as noted in a statement released on the Mauritanian army's official website.
General Berrid received a warm welcome, underscored by the presence of numerous high-ranking Mauritanian officers at Nouakchott's military airport to greet him.
This visit unfolds against a backdrop of notable regional developments. It coincides with the opening of a new session of the joint commission between Algeria and Mauritania in Algiers, co-chaired by the two countries' Prime Ministers, where defense matters are also being addressed.
It's worth recalling that in April 2025, Nouakchott and Algiers inked two military cooperation agreements. The first aims to bolster collaboration in defense, while the second focuses on the protection of classified information, according to details from the Mauritanian army.
Meanwhile, Morocco remains vigilant about the security situation along Mauritania's borders, especially with Mali and Senegal, where instability persists due to the presence of armed terrorist groups.
