The American conglomerate Nexus Core Systems has recently secured a 20-hectare plot in Nouaceur, near Casablanca, from Princess Lalla Meryem, the elder sister of King Mohammed VI, according to a report by Africa Intelligence on Friday, May 1.
This acquisition, facilitated through the holding company Unihold, is set to pave the way for the construction of a 16 MW data center. This development represents the initial phase of a $500 million investment aimed at bolstering the artificial intelligence (AI) sector in Morocco.
Previously, the French media outlet reported on April 2 that Nexus Core Systems' data center project was gaining momentum in Morocco. The consortium had pinpointed the outskirts of Casablanca, specifically Nouaceur, as the ideal location for this initiative.
Morocco, and particularly the Casablanca region, was chosen for its strategic advantages. Key among these are its close proximity to Europe, a mere 15 kilometers across the Strait of Gibraltar, and its direct links to several undersea fiber optic cables, ensuring robust international high-speed connectivity.
