Tanger Med restricts port access to confirmed ticket holders from July 15

As the summer peak of Operation Marhaba 2026 approaches, Tanger Med will, from July 15, restrict port access to travelers holding a confirmed ticket with a specified crossing date and time. The measure is intended to prevent congestion and better manage the transit of Moroccans living abroad during the busiest travel days.

As the summer peak of Operation Marhaba 2026 approaches, Tanger Med Passenger Port is tightening access to its facilities by introducing a new measure aimed at easing passenger flows. From July 15, only travelers holding a confirmed ferry ticket with the exact date and departure time of their crossing will be allowed to enter the port.

The measure forms part of the exceptional arrangements put in place each summer to facilitate the return of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs). Under the coordination of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, Tanger Med said it has mobilized all its human, technical and logistical resources to ensure travelers are received in the best possible conditions of comfort, safety and efficiency.

The new requirement is intended to prevent the congestion that occurs during periods of exceptionally heavy traffic, when thousands of passengers and vehicles converge on the Mediterranean's busiest passenger port. Authorities are therefore urging travelers to plan their journeys in advance and regularly consult Tanger Med's traffic forecasts to adjust their travel plans and, where possible, avoid peak periods.

Travelers without confirmed tickets asked to update their bookings

Passengers without a confirmed ticket will no longer be allowed direct access to the port. Instead, they are asked to confirm or modify the date and time of their crossing with their ferry company before traveling to Tanger Med.

For those already en route to northern Morocco, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has set up a reception center for Moroccans residing abroad at the Tanger Med rest area on the Rabat–Tangier motorway, where travelers can confirm or change their ferry bookings.

A second reception point is also available at the Aïn Chouka rest area near Ksar Sghir. However, the port stressed that any changes remain subject to availability with the ferry companies.

Several channels to monitor traffic in real time

To help travelers throughout their journey, Tanger Med provides several tools for real-time information. Passengers can consult the Tanger Med Passenger Port website and its social media channels for live traffic updates and the latest travel recommendations.

Tanger Med Radio, broadcasting on 100 FM, also provides continuous updates on road traffic and port operations. In addition, the port's mobile app offers real-time access to practical travel information, including traffic conditions, ferry schedules and the various services available.

As every year, Operation Marhaba involves a large-scale system coordinated by the Moroccan authorities to assist the millions of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) traveling between Europe and Morocco during the summer. Tanger Med is the country's main gateway during the operation, handling thousands of passengers and vehicles each day during peak periods.

The port has also published traffic forecasts covering the entire Operation Marhaba 2026 period. These indicate particularly heavy traffic from the second half of July through much of August, for both arrivals and departures. Travelers are therefore encouraged to consult the forecasts regularly before planning their journey in order to choose less congested time slots and minimize waiting times.
