The Moroccan middle-distance runner, Hicham El Guerrouj could lose five world records according to the BBC. The European Athletic Association, which is the governing body for European athletes and records proposed to create a new list of world records to break up with the doping scandals that marked the period before 2005.
The new list suggested by the Europian Association will not include records scored before 2005. As a result; rankings will have to abide to new strict criteria and rules. «Olympic champions including Florence Griffith-Joyner, Michael Johnson, Hicham El Guerrouj and Jonathan Edwards will fall off the world record list on to an 'all-time list' if the proposals are ratified by the the sport's governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), in August», the BBC reports.
El Guerrouj who is currently world record holder in the 1500 meters, might lose this title along with the four other records that he broke in Roma in 1998 and 1999.
