Homosexuality : Two men arrested after being caught red handed during Ramadan

Two men were arrested on the 5th of June after having had homosexual intercourse during Ramadan. The incident took place at Kariat Akermane in the Oriental region of the country, said the Spanish news agency EFE.

The arrest of the two young men by the Royal Gendarmerie was reported by Akaliyat Association. According to the local media, the detainees were aged 16 and 19 and were caught in the middle of a sexual act by the mother of the youngest one in an abandoned house next to the beach. The latter informed the police later who «arrived at the scene immediately and were able to find that the two men were undressed», Akaliyat published on its Facebook page.

The detainees were presented before the public prosecutor. Article 489 from the Criminal code criminalizes «acts of unlawful or unnatural conduct with a person of the same sex», and they risk sentences ranging from six months to three years. The young men will also be punished for not fasting during Ramadan.
