The project of building care homes for Moroccan youths whose asylum applications have been rejected by Sweden has not seen any progress, Chinese news agency Xenhua reports today. Sweden’s plan is meant to help Moroccan asylum seekers return to their country with the help of Germany.

According to the same source, last February both Sweden and Germany declared that they would collaborate to construct youth centers in Morocco for migrants deported from the two countries. Unfortunately Germany withdrew from the project which held the idea of «providing homes and care for young migrants in Morocco».

Sweden’s minister for justice and home affairs Morgan Johansson declared that «the Germans are no longer interested» and that «it is not possible to carry out the project, which has been put on ice».

According to him tha Moroccan authorities now are accepting deported citizens. Statistics show that during the last 18 months, 441 Moroccans have been deported from Sweden. 178 of them were sent to Morocco while 253 were deported to other European countries. The majority of the 441 deported migrants are aged between 18 and 30 years old and 53 of them are under 18.
