Siemens Gamesa, Spanish manufacturing company principally involved in the fabrication of wind turbines and the construction of wind farms, inaugurated on Wednesday, 11th of October, a new factory in Tangier, according to Medias 24.
The event was chaired by Moroccan Minister of Industry, Investement, Trade and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy and Markus Tacke, President and CEO of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.
The factory will be the first wind turbines manufacturer in Africa and the Middle East. It will produce wind turbine blades using composite materials.
The plant, located in the industrial zone of Tangier Automotive City, about 35 kilometers away from the Tangier Med port, covers an area of 37,500 square meters. B63-10 blades, 63 meters long, will be produced for export to Europe, Africa and the Middle East, as well as for local projects.
The investment, which has cost a total of 100 million Euros, is expected to create 600 jobs and 500 auxiliary jobs.
A 3,500 square meter training center has also been set up to facilitate the transfer of knowledge from Siemens Gamesa experts in Spain to Tangier.
This new plant will contribute to Morocco's national target of producing up to 52% of its electricity from clean energy by 2030, of which 20% will be generated by wind power.
