Rabat is expected to host during the 8th and 9th of May a new session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. A meeting will be hosted Tuesday and attended by the Committee on Foreign Affairs to review the resolutions adopted at the latest Arab League summit in Dahran in Saudi Arabia on April 15, indicates the organization in an communiqué published on its website.

This session will be attended by an Algerian delegation led by Aziz Bezzaz, vice president of the Upper House. The Algerian representatives are sent to Rabat in an attempt to «calm things down», says Algerian daily newspaper Echourouk.

Defending Iran and Hezbollah

Diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries have been, indeed, affected by a series of events. Algeria has reacted negatively to the Moroccan decision suggesting to severe diplomatic relations with Iran and latest incursions of the Polisario’s armed elements into the buffer zones.

«The visit of the Algerian delegation must be interpreted based on the current general context. Algerian parliamentarians are here to better defend Iran and try to tone down some resolutions condemning the interference of Iran in Morocco’s internal affairs», a well-informed source told Yabiladi on Monday.

«This question is expected to be at the heart of this new session. The Moroccan delegation will seize the opportunity to get the full support of the body», says the same source.

In March 2016 in Tunis, the Arab Interior Ministers had classified Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Algeria had been keen to distance itself from such a resolution.

«Any decision concerning this movement must be pronounced by the Lebanese. Hezbollah is a political party and military movement that is part of the social and political landscape in Lebanon», argued Algerian Foreign minister.
